| Did You Know |
- All of Fisher-Churchill and Mass Biofuel’s delivery trucks are powered by biodiesel.
- Biodiesel has a higher cetane than regular heating oil and diesel fuel. Having a higher cetane results in more complete (cleaner) combustion by allowing more time for the fuel to mix with the air.
- Heating oil represents 54% of the total demand of #2 distillate oil in the North East. On Road diesel fuel represents 38%.
- About 963,000 homes in Massachusetts use oilheat to heat their homes.
- Biodiesel has the highest BTU content of any alternative fuel.
- Biodiesel biodegrades faster than sugar, less toxic than table salt and is virtually sulfur free.
- If all oil heated homes in the US switched to a low sulfur fuel oil, more than $200 million per year could be saved in maintenance.
- Using lower sulfur fuels improves long term efficiency of the boiler/furnace in two ways:
- heating costs are reduced as less fuel is required to supply the required heating demand
- emissions of all pollutants (including CO2) are reduced as less fuel is consumed by more efficient heating equipment.
- Even 1/32” of soot in a heating system decreases system efficiency by 16.2%
- Blending locally produced biodiesel into heating oils offers opportunity to reduce imports, stabilize supplies and minimizes inevitable price spikes.
- From October 2004 to February 2008 Mass Biofuel has sold and used 94,000 gallons of 100% biodiesel.
- In April 2008, Mass Biofuel switched to a 100% recycled, locally refined biodiesel lowering their carbon footprint and reusing a product that would otherwise be thrown out.
- It is because of Mass Biofuel’s initiative that legislation is so interested in pushing biofuels.
- The overall lifecycle production of wastewater from biodiesel is 79% lower than that of diesel. In other words, petroleum diesel generated 5 times as much wastewater flow as biodiesel.
- The overall lifecycle production of hazardous solid waste from biodiesel is 96% lower than that of diesel. However, biodiesel does generate 2 times more non-hazardous waste that that of diesel. We think that might be a reasonable trade off.
- Breathe easy.
All printed material at Fisher-Churchill/ Mass Biofuel is printed at Print Master in Norwood, MA. They are a local printing company who maintains a green print shop by using only solvent free washes, they produce zero emissions from their vent stacks and use Mohawk Fine Papers, the first manufacturing company to derive 100% of it’s electricity from renewable wind power.
